Step 1: know your target resolution and refresh rate
This decides more of the GPU choice than any other factor:
- 1080p, standard refresh -- an RTX 4060 or similar comfortably handles most modern games and everyday tasks
- 1080p high refresh (144Hz+) or 1440p standard -- an RTX 4060 Ti or 4070 is the sweet spot
- 1440p high refresh, or entry 4K -- an RTX 4070 Ti or 4080-class card
- 4K, maxed settings -- RTX 4090 or 5090-tier cards, at a significant price jump
Step 2: match VRAM to your actual use, not just gaming

Step 3: check your power supply, not just the GPU price
A powerful GPU needs a PSU with enough wattage and the right connectors. This is one of the most common oversights in Uganda builds -- buyers spend the whole budget on the card and are then short on a PSU that can actually run it safely.

A simple rule of thumb
Buy for the resolution and refresh rate you actually use today, not the one you imagine upgrading to in two years -- GPU prices drop and new options appear by the time that upgrade is actually due, so paying a premium now for hypothetical future-proofing rarely pays off.
