Why SketchUp lags even on "good enough" hardware
SketchUp's viewport is OpenGL-based, and it's more sensitive to driver quality and VRAM than raw GPU horsepower. A card with too little VRAM will stutter badly once you import furniture blocks, textures and site context -- even if the GPU itself is technically fast enough on paper.

- 6-8GB VRAM minimum for typical architectural models with imported components and textures
- A recent driver -- SketchUp performance issues are very often a driver problem, not a hardware one
- Turning off unnecessary shadows and anti-aliasing while modeling, saving the quality settings for final presentation views
If you're also rendering (Enscape, V-Ray, Twilight)
The moment you add a renderer, the calculus changes -- Enscape wants 8-12GB VRAM for comfortable use, and V-Ray for SketchUp benefits from a stronger CUDA-capable NVIDIA card if you're using GPU rendering mode. Budget for the renderer, not just the modeling.
